5 ways to de-stress before going to bed

Do you ever get in from a long day and work, and just can’t relax? I do every now and then, and I really struggle to relax, wind down and chill out. Normally I can get to sleep really quick, my head hits the pillow and I am gone. But recently I have been struggling a little more, and I think it’s because I have a lot going on at the moment (which I can’t say right now, but it’ll be worth the wait. Sorryyyy!)

I thought I would put together a few of my favourite tips and tricks for you lovely lot, to help you wind down and ‘de-stress’ before you’re going to bed, making sure it helps you get the best night sleep as you possibly can. As we all need our beauty sleep right?

Find something comforting. You need to be around comforting things, things you love and love having/being around you. For me, this will definitely be a warm blanket, a candle burning, and of course my favourite chocolates. One of my favourite chocolate is Giant Buttons from Cadburys – can we just? I love spending an evening watching my favourite programme on Netflix, or my favourite Youtuber with my favourite foods, with a good atmosphere around me. This is one of the best ways to really try and unwind, before actually getting into bed.

Drink water. This may seem a weird one, but drink water. Try not to indulge in fizzy drinks, and definitely not in coffee, or even tea. These drinks have a lot of sugar/caffeine in them which can easily keep you tossing and turning in the night as your mind is just buzzing. Water is definitely the answer.

Room spray. I am starting to swear by room spray. I always spray a little spritz around my room just before I am getting into bed. My favourite smells and scents really calms my mind, makes me think happy thoughts instead of worrying about something that has happened during the day. A lavender scent is really good for when you’re about to get some sleep.

Put your phone away. I know we all do it, and I know its difficult -especially for us social media fanatics! But really try to switch off from your phone. I tend to get into bed about an hour before I actually want to go to sleep, I’ll spend the first half hour catching up on social media, what’s going on in the world, but after that half hour, I will definitely turn my phone off…which brings me to…

Read a book instead. Once you’ve had your time on your phone, switch it off and switch it to a book you’re loving. At the moment I am loving the ‘Read this is you want to be Instagram famous’ book which is super handy for tips and tricks with Instagram and photography in general. Reading really helps calm the mind again, and also helps your eyes as you won’t be looking at a bright screen just before you plan to go to sleep.

Once you’ve done all these steps, I feel like you will definitely  have a better nights sleep. They really work for me, and I hope they work fo you too. If there anything different you do?

Love always, G x
