72 Hours in Amsterdam

Myself and my boyfriend decide this year that we weren’t going to go on a big summer holiday, as we are saving now for a house together. So instead we booked a little trip away to the city of Amsterdam. It worked out really well too as it fell on our anniversary, as we have been together for 5 years when we were way which was really special too.

We had an early flight that meant I had to get up at 3am, gosh! But it was so worth it, we flew from London Stansted and the flight to Amsterdam is only about an hour long, which isn’t long at all for a little city break.

We stayed at the Dutch Design Hotel Artemis, which was a really beautiful 4 star hotel. To get in the city we had about an 8 minute walk tot he tram stop, which sounds quite far but it on;y feels round the corner so it wasn’t a problem for us. Once we got on the tram, which I loved but the way, why can’t we have trams here?! It is about a 20 minute ride on the tram into the city.

IMG_1076Amsterdam is such a beautiful city, I love the Dam square, the buildings and the canals. They are just beautiful and really take your breath away. The first day we arrived we just had a wander round, as the weather wasn’t great for the first half of the day, but it soon brightened up which was great. As wandering around we too found the Sex Museum, as of course we had to go inside and have a look as you just have too, you’re in Amsterdam. It was a definite eye opener I have to say, we just went in for a little giggle. We then (keeping on the same theme here) thought we would have a wander and try to find the Red Light District. We had no idea where it was but just stumbled across is when we suddenly saw all of these women in the windows. Wow, what an eye opener. I couldn’t believe how normal it is out there, it didn’t really seem a big deal to the people out there. There were naked women everywhere, some of them tapping on the windows to try and get people to go in. But we just walked past and didn’t make eye contact with them. You have to have a walk down there if you’re in Amsterdam, it will definitely open your eyes. Just remember not to take any pictures down there, you will get arrested and there are police everywhere.

The food in Amsterdam is just great, but not if you’re on a diet! I think we had pancakes every day we were there, either for breakfast or just a midday snack! I also had the most amazing cookie, I have ever had! It was milk and white chocolate chips, and it also had nutella inside and omg. I can’t tell you how amazing it was! On the Wednesday, it was mine and Ryan’s 5 year anniversary, so we went out for a nice meal together where Ryan had a mahoosive pizza and I had a pasta dish which was yummy too.IMG_1113 IMG_1112 IMG_1111

As you may know, Amsterdam is very famous for it being legal to do certain type of drugs, like cannabis. You are allowed to buy anything to do with cannabis, seeds to grow then yourselves or you can buy certain foods with it in also. I didn’t try any of it as I’m not into that scene, but I know a lot of people do when they go, which is fine. But please don’t try to buy some and bring it back home, because you might just get arrested for it!

When in Amsterdam, you have to hire some bikes right?! We hired some bikes for an hour, as we decide to ride them near the canals. We thought this was the safest place as the roads and traffic lights are really confusing over there, but they were so much fun and felt like part of the community there as there are more bikes than population in Amsterdam, how crazy is that?! We also went on a 1 hour canal ride which was really great if you want to see most of the city and for a few little fun facts. I really enjoyed that and it wasn’t too expensive either.

I really loved exploring Amsterdam, I loved how pretty it was and how it also has a naughty side to it which was really interesting as you don’t see that sort of thing everyday. The food was amazing, just make sure you wear some comfortable shoes as you do a lot of walking.

Let me know if you’re think about going to Amsterdam, or if you’ve been what you thought of it.

Love always, G x

Me and my boyfriend did this last year, it was amazing!
We didn’t dare go on bikes though, too scared that the locals would have sent us flying!
