Attending your first ever blogger event can be a really exciting and scary experience. I have to admit that I haven’t been to many events, just one here and there. But they are SO much fun and would love to attend more.
One of my new years resolutions was to be more out there with the blogging world and attend more events when I get invited. So far I have been to two events this year, but hope to go to another two later in the year- One is actually tomorrow! (eeep!)
Going to your first blogger event can be a really scary/nervous experience so I thought I would just share with you some of my tips, and if they are helpful for at least one person, I am happy.
Social Media is your best friend – Make sure you advertise that you are going to an event using their hashtag(if they have one, if not then just make your own one up). This really helps to find other bloggers who are also going to the same event, and you may get to know them a little more before meeting them there to make you feel less nervous. Or you can even arrange to travel with someone who lives near by. I really find this can help nervs a lot. As the worst thing for me is definitely thinking I am going alone and won’t know anyone else there…But hey, us bloggers stick together right?
Others going will be in the same situation too- Just remember that there will be a lot of people who will be in the same boat as you. It will help if you make other bloggers feel comfortable, as you would want them to make you feel that way too. This really helps to break the ice and become friendly with someone. If you see anyone that seems to feel out of place or alone, go and say Hi, introduce yourself and ask them about their blog. That’s the main reason you are there after all. You might have a lot in common, and hey, they might even become your new best friend.
Don’t be late- I feel this is a really important one. If you’re going to your fist event, you really don’t want to draw attention to yourself if you are arriving late, this will definitely make you more nervous and maybe a little embarrassed. Make sure you leave in plenty of time and have time to settle down once you are there, get to know your surroundings and start chatting to other bloggers before the event officially starts. This will 100% make you feel a lot more relaxed about the situation, and it will for other bloggers too.
Remember why you are there- Remembering why you are there is so important. Someone has chosen you to attend their exclusive event, and you should definitely make the most of it. Events are such great opportunities for us bloggers. You get to meet many others who do the same thing as you, and you also get to meet some amazing brands too that you may get the chance to work with. Most of all, it is such a great experience. I feel it really helps grow your confidence for whatever the future holds for you.
Have fun- The most important thing of course, is to just have fun. It’s all very exciting and can really boost your love of blogging and get you in the right direction for your future. Events aren’t made to be scary places. They will welcome you with open arms and try and make you feel as comfortable as possible for the best experience ever.
I really hope that this post helps anyone who is a new blogger, or even a older blogger going to their first event. I know how nervous I was, and not going to lie, I still do get nervous when I go to them now. But just remember everyone around you is in the same boat and you all have the samee interests at heart.
I am really excited to be attending the Big Blogger Expo in London on Sunday- It’s the first event that I have been to that’s in London which is really exciting. I am going with a really old friend who I haven’t seen for years, and she has a blog about fitness which you can read here. So it will be great to have a massive catch up with her too.
I will definitely be writing about my experience there too so make sure you watch out for that post in the next couple of weeks.
Have fun on your blogging journey!
Love always, G x
