Why I Love AND Hate Halloween

The Halloween holiday is a weird one for me. I will always tell my friends and family how much I love Halloween, but when they ask me why, i’m left baffled. Okay so let’s focus on the things I love about Halloween first…

Pumpkins I don’t know a single blogger who doesn’t like pumpkins. I have to admit, pumpkin’s to eat I think are horrible, but for decoration they are so cute and Autumnal. I have only bought one pumpkin so far this year as I am going out on Halloween night. Pumpkins make any house or home so homely and autumnal and they are just super cute to look at. I would love to one day go to a pumpkin patch as it’s very ‘American’, but just think of all the cute pictures!

Films I am not one for scary films. I watched paranormal activity in the cinema with a group of friends and couldn’t sleep for nearly a week. My mind definitely plays tricks on me! Horror films are a no go area with me, although I like to think I can watch them… I can’t. So by Halloween films I mean films like Hocus Pocus (possibly the best Halloween film ever) A Nightmare Before Christmas (well, it’s half Halloween?!) and Scary Movie (even this still scares me a bit)

Cute Fancy Dress Outfits I love all the cute fancy dress costumes. Not for adults… for the kids. I love seeing pictures of my friends kids all dressed up for halloween looking super cute. Especially the classic baby in a big pumpkin costume, can they get any more adorable?!

Treats I live on quite a busy main road with a gate, so on Halloween we don’t get hardly any trick or treaters at all. But that is still no excuse to go out and buy all the halloween treats from the supermarket, and just eat them all for myself!

Baking Pinterest is my best friend when it comes to Halloween, I love seeing all the different baking and foodie posts which people can try out. I just admit, most of them turn in a disaster for me, but I tried!

Okay, so while those few things is what I love about Halloween, now lets take a look at a few things why I hate it too.

Scary Films Like I said before, I am not one for a scary film. I know a lot of people do like them, and really I am jealous as I wish I could watch them, but I am too much of a scaredy cat.

I Scream at Everything For some reason, on Halloween night, everything becomes that bit more scary. The last couple of years I have been to scare fests, basically it’s a walk in the dark and people are jumping out at you in the woods and in haunted houses. I don’t know why I do it to myself really. I agree to these things and think it’s going to be so much fun, but when I am there, I completely freak out and will probably start crying. What do I get myself into…

Lunatics Every Halloween you seem to get the lunatics who go a bit too far in scaring people. This year there is a killer clown phase, and it so happens that one of my biggest fears are scary clowns. I have been scared to drive home in the dark incase I see a freaky clown most nights, not cool.

Trick or Treaters Maybe I am a bit of a humbug with this one, I love the idea of little kids going round trick or treating with their parents supervision, it’s cute. But when you get the older kids, who have put no effort into their costume knocking on your door for sweets, and they end up taking a hand full.. No, can you not? Save some for the littlens please.

Full Moon hate when there is a full moon on Halloween night. I know it’s a load of rubbish what the films and TV says about a full moon on Halloween. But it still goes through my mind that the werewolves and vampires will come out and hunt you down. There is just something so eery about it.

So there you are, why I love and hate Halloween. Are you a lover or hater of Halloween? I am going to go grab a hot chocolate and get all cosy and watch Scary Movie now, let’s hope I don’t get too scared!

Love always, G x

I am definitely a lover of Halloween, especially pumpkins! Baking has to be the cosiest though! 🙂 I totally agree with you about the Killer Clowns! I think I’m more scared in my car than I am walking the streets haha! Great post 🙂

I completely agree with you! I have a love/hate relationship with Halloween and the killer clown craze is terrifying me! Halloween is one of my favourite times of year for baking though (second only to Christmas!)

I love pumpkins too – when we were little we’d always carve one and now I’m an adult I always make sure we keep this tradition going. I’m also with you on the trick or treaters. The little kids are cute, and I don’t mind that (although i do find it odd knocking on strangers doors) but the big kids really annoy me, it seems to be about greed with them. And some ask for money. Err, no.

For me, halloween is just blocking my smooth pathway in to Christmas festivities! I’m going to a Halloween party this year (mainly to escape those annoying kids who take big handfuls of sweets) but to be honest, I could take it or leave it aha xx

Haha. I totally get that! A Halloween party is a good excuse to dress up though 🙂 xx
