Preparing your car for a Roadtrip

If you own a car, you’ll know how important it is to keep your car in check, especially when you’re planing  a trip away.
Lets be honest, a lot of the time we can’t be bothered, or ‘forget’ to remember or keep an eye on the important things we need to with our cars. I know I definitely do it quite a lot. Guilty!

I always try and go through a checklist for my car before going on a roadtrip. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t really know a thing about cars, but I do know the basics which can stop something drastic from happening while away, which could really ruin your trip.

First things first, and probably the most obvious, tyres. Tyres are one of, if not the most important thing to check. Always check your tyre pressures. I always check these first before going on a roadtrip as its one of the most basic checks for your car, and so easy to check and do yourself. It must be if I can do it!

Also check the tyre tread. Also very important as if its too low you could be driving illegally, this then means you will need to get a new tyre! I actually didn’t know how to check the tread of my tyres until really recently, all you need to do is run your finger round the ridge in the top of the tyre, you;; feel a little line at some point. If the tyre itself is level wit the line, then you need a new tyre. If the line is below your tyre then you’re fine. If you find that you do need one or maybe a couple of new tyres, try checking out Jet Wheel Tyre’s online booking system, they’re a great company for all your tyre needs!

A couple of other things I always check before heading out, is to make sure my lights are working so that I have no dull bulbs, make sure I have water fluid in the washers, again sooo important as you need to be able to see at all times whilst driving, I also check my oil is topped up and my air con is fully functioning.

Again, I would say that the tyres are definitely most important for checking safety with your car, if the tyres aren’t safe, then you aren’t safe in the car.

If you’re reading this thinking ‘I can’t remember the last time I checked my tyres’ then go and check them now. You’ll probably be surprised.

Let me know if you’re going on any road trips this year, I’d love to have a chat in the comments!

Love always, G x
