Spending My Birthday in Lockdown

Hey guys! Long time no speak I know… Well, a lot has happened in the time I last posted. So let’s quickly update you.
If you are reading this at current time, it’s currently March in 2020, and the world is currently in a Pandemic. Sounds dramatic? Well it’s true. The whole world is being hit with the evil COVID-19 virus, and most of the world is in lockdown, including us in the UK now. I didn’t want this post to be a downer, but I also know that it has to be said. The UK has been in lockdown for a week now, and I feel like this is going to go on for a while…anyway, it was my birthday this week.

I basically really wanted to document my birthday this year, as it is such a weird time in the world. I thought it would be really interesting to look back on.

So, back to my birthday. I was 26 earlier in the week, and what a weird birthday it had been!

Before the lockdown happened in the UK, I had a few things planned for my birthday like seeing my family, my friends, going out for a couple of meals and coffee dates. But none of this happened. The meals were cancelled as restaurants had to shut, cafe’s too! So no coffee dates for me. And the worst part of all this was that I was not allowed to see any family or friends. During lockdown, we have been asked by the government to stay home as much as possible. Work from home, only be with the people in your household which means you are not allowed to travel to see any other family who you don’t live with ( Mum & Dad etc! ) and we were only allowed to go out to the supermarkets, and for one form of exercise a day (as long as you aren’t in groups of more than two, and stay 2 meters away from people!) So as you can see, it’s been very odd.

So what did I actually do on my birthday you might ask?! Well believe it or not I still had a good day.

When I woke up, there was a cake sitting on the table, and it was my favourite – coffee cake!

Myself and Ryan got dressed for the day, and we opened presents and cards whilst watching the new Aladdin on Disney+.

After lunch we went out for our walk of the day. We live on a really big estate and in the middle is a lovely walking area with a big lake so we walked around there, keeping our distance from others of course. But it was nice to get some fresh air and get out of the flat for a little bit.

When we came back, we decided to plan for our Disney trip for a little while. I know this might seen a bit optimistic with what’s going on, but we knew it would make us both happy doing this so that’s what we did, and we made pretty good progress!

After dinner, we decided to sit down and watch a film neither of us had seen on Disney+, and we decided on Wreck it Ralph. What a film! I don’t know why we hadn’t seen it sooner, it was amazing and I definitely recommend it.

Then…Well then we went to bed, such grandmas haha!

Despite having a really relaxed day at home for my birthday. I got some really lovely gifts to open, and I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to wish me a happy birthday, it really meant a lot, especially this year as of what’s going on.

Even though I did end up having a lovely day, I missed my family so much. But thank you technology as I managed to FaceTime everyone! So it was lovely to still their faces and know that they were ok, and the same with my friends too!

If you would like to see a vlog of my birthday, you can find it here!

Let me know how you are coping in this weird situation we are in at the moment, if you want to chat, I am always here.

I hope you are all keeping safe and well! And lets hope this passes soon…

Love always, G x
